The 10th edition of the National English Carnival, organised by Notre Dame English Club, cemented its legacy as one of the biggest carnivals in club history. It came in all horns blazing and left its mark in the memory of the participants and all the people involved in organising the carnival. 

Ten editions in, and the Carnival still behaves like it has something to prove. That wish for continuation was granted this April, as the iridescent festival celebrating the English language returned for its landmark tenth edition. Three days, thirteen segments, and 1,736 registrations from schools, colleges and universities across the country, NDEC was up for a challenge. Introducing two new signature events that paved the way for a promising future of the club in honing vocabulary and inference, the club broke through the ceiling and soared high.

The National Scrabble Tournament 


In a historic first for Bangladesh, the Carnival introduced a nationwide Scrabble tournament, a milestone in vocabulary development achieved through entertainment. The 15x15 word game played on a board is the 2nd most competitive game in the world, only behind chess. The first edition did not disappoint, as it brought dozens of eager players wanting to give it a try, beginning their journeys towards becoming a grandmaster. 


The Art of Detection


Our Sherlock Holmes-inspired treasure hunt sent 139 participants across the campus in pursuit of cyphers, cryptic clues, and staged crime scenes, each leading to the next. Comprehension and deduction mattered more than recall. It remains the Carnival's most talked-about segment, and deservedly so; the running across the college grounds accounts for a good half of the appeal.
