You really really feel the panic through its showcase of the frantic response, the pressure on the operators and many more scenes. The show doesn’t rush, it lets every moment sink in. Its slow unfolding of the truth makes it a masterpiece.

The actors genuinely lay the weight down through their acting. Jared Harris plays a scientist who is torn between fighting for the truth and maintaining the USSR’s integrity. Stellan Skarsgard plays Boris Scherbina, whose character transforms from a Soviet partisan to a man who really really cares for the people and upholds the truth. Emily Watson’s Ulana Khomyuk is a made-up character who is a representation of the scientists responsible for the clean up. Small characters like Dyatlov, Bryukhanov were the human flaws that fueled the Disaster.

While “Chernobyl” received widespread applause for its storytelling and performances, many historians criticized it for the liberties it had taken when it came to historical facts.
